Oregon Youth Soccer September 2015

Starting a TOPSoccer Program is Easy — and Fun!

It's a lot simpler than you think to host a TOPSoccer program at your club.

TOPSoccer (The Outreach Program for Soccer) is a community-based training and team-placement program for young athletes with disabilities, organized by youth soccer association volunteers. The program is designed to bring the opportunity of learning and playing soccer to any boy or girl who has a mental or physical disability.

TOPSoccer was developed so that all players can enjoy the beautiful game. This includes our players with special needs. We'll show you how to start, develop and facilitate a program at your club for those kids who otherwise wouldn't get to play.

All you need is an accessible field or indoor space, a few coaches (who we'll help train!) and a willingness to be a part of something special.

I have personal experience with special-needs children. My daughter, Ruby, was diagnosed with autism five years ago, and so we entered a world that was new, uncertain and a little scary, too. We didn't know what to expect. What we quickly found was that these kids were absolutely no different than other children in their desire to have fun, be entertained and to just be kids!

Yes, they may need certain concessions made so that they can be a part of a bigger group, but once that happens they will have the greatest experience. And all because you took the time to create that for them.

If you have questions about how it might work in your club, please don't hesitate to reach out and ask. We can help in every aspect along the way, from training, to the buddy system, to equipment ... all so that the special-needs players in your neighborhoods can experience the joys and benefits of soccer, like everyone else.

Contact me below and let's get YOUR club started! Or, check out our website page. You won't be sorry you did!
