Oregon Youth Soccer • December 2015
A Year of Growth Begets a Year of Opportunity
Over the past 12 months, the Oregon Youth Soccer Association has made some tremendous strides in the ever-changing youth soccer landscape. Here are just a few of the highlights from 2015:
• Growth - Our association has grown to over 60,000 participants, ranging from five-year-old grassroots players to 18-year-old elite athletes and everything in between. We have seen new TOPSoccer programs begin around the state and have added new and exciting ways to educate over 8,000 coaches.
• Service - We have continued to focus on providing unique and valuable services to our membership. In 2015, we added Simon Date to our already excellent staff as our Manager of Marketing and Communications. Simon has been tasked with connecting with our member clubs to ensure that we are providing the services that our members need. We are also excited to have Roberta Cloutier return to the OYSA family. Her experience in youth soccer is a valuable resource.
• Education – The 2015 calendar year was the most successful year we have ever had when it comes to educating coaches. We were able to offer educational opportunities from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, U.S. Soccer, and our own special topics courses and clinics.
Now it is time to look forward to 2016. We have some exciting announcements that will be made at our 2016 Annual General Meeting at the end of January. The theme for this meeting, and for all of 2016, is “Together Everyone Achieves More.” It is clear that with all of us working together, we can continue to show that Oregon is a leader in developing our game.
I hope you all have a great holiday season and I look forward to seeing you on the field in 2016.
