OYSA Coach Development Program
The OYSA offers a comprehensive and wide-ranging program of coach development events, designed to meet the needs of coaches at all levels throughout the state. Clinics and courses are scheduled at various locations during the year and OYSA member clubs may also request to host an event in their area.
Bob Bigney, the OYSA’s Director of Education, had this to say about coach development in Oregon, “I feel it is important for any coach to continue to learn, improve and develop his/her skills in working with children. The OYSA offers courses, clinics and other events that can help in this never-ending process.”
The OYSA offers informal, 1-2 hour coach clinics; U.S. Soccer Federation Courses ("E," "D" and "C" License courses) and courses through the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). The NSCAA courses offered by the OYSA range from a six-hour Level 2 course up to an 18-hour Level 6 course. The OYSA is also proud to sponsor NSCAA national-level courses; the National Diploma Course, the Advanced National Diploma Course, the Premier Diploma Course and the Director of Coaching Diploma Course.
“It has been wonderful getting around the State and conducting these courses this year," says Bigney, who came on-board with the OYSA in August. “Working with coaches and discussing ways to improve the service we provide our young players – something that is so important – is a passion of mine. I have met many wonderful people throughout Oregon and the OYSA is doing a great job in providing these coach education events.”
