Oregon Youth Soccer September 2015

What Did I Miss?

Oregon Youth Soccer has conducted several training sessions over the past two months to give our members and administrators better access to the knowledge they need to run a successful club. Aside from the ones listed below, these sessions are hosted at various times throughout the year, often at zero cost to attend. To give you an idea of what to expect, we’ve included some examples in this section of the newsletter.

Registration Questions?

In June 2015, we hosted a two-hour training class specifically designed for users of our registration system, Affinity. Joel Meyers from Affinity hosted the course, and we captured it here.

Club Management Workshop

On July 10 and 11, we hosted the Club Management Workshop at the downtown Portland Marriott Hotel. This two-day event, free for attendees (with hotel room included), was a series of seminars that focused on different aspects of running a club. It also gave members a chance to meet the staff of OYSA as they presented their topics:

Business Aspects of Club Management – John Madding
Board & Staff Development – Desia Bramel
Defining the Entity – Brian Scott
Coach Development Program – Bob Bigney
The Use of Technology to Enhance Your Club – Simon Date

Coaching Clinics

We also hosted several clinics for various clubs throughout the state this summer. (And still have more to go!) You can find a comprehensive list of what’s coming up at our website. Spaces still exist in some of the courses, and many are free through your club(s). Check our our Coaches Development Program here.

What’s Coming Up?

Fall Season

We get things rolling right away, as a busy fall season starts back up in September. We’re looking forward to seeing over 500 teams compete this season at various levels and age groups! It’s been a busy summer for our registration crew here in the office and your registrars, too, and finally you'll be able to see the fruits of your hard work take the field!

More Coaching Clinics!

Coaching Education is something that we’re passionate about, so keep checking back for sessions in your area. If you don’t see a course offered, ask your club to host one. We can send out the instructors, at any level, and help with your continued education in the coaching field.

Annual General Meeting

We know it’s not for another five months, but we’re excited to tell you about the 2016 AGM. Save the date!

It will beJan. 28-30, and will again be down at the Portland Marriott along the waterfront. You can register now for the event, and find out what we have scheduled on our website by clicking here.

You can also attend the Annual Business Meeting following the awards luncheon on Jan. 30. Each club has a vote at the meeting for open board positions, proposed changes in bylaws as well as other topics!
